Uses this page’s address. On a NAS install, nginx here serves the UI and proxies /_matrix to Synapse.

Address book lock

LOCKED

Keeps names and phones from being overwritten by Import, CardDAV pull, or auto-repair. To change anything while locked, type ok when asked. Read-only reference copies live on the NAS under contacts-reference/.

Phone contacts

Import / Export

NAS storage: Import / Save already keeps your Ultimate Chat address book on this NAS (Matrix account data). Phones match incoming SMS by number.

Optional: enable CardDAV below to sync the same book with your phone Contacts app (iPhone CardDAV / Android DAVx5).

SMS (SMSGate)

Phone Local Server credentials for the SMS bridge (same user/pass as the SMSGate app). Enable + Save turns the feature Active. A green check (Validated) appears only after Ultimate Chat successfully reaches the phone API.

WhatsApp

Press Connect to talk to the bridge bot here. QR / login stays in this box — Ultimate Chat never asks for your WhatsApp password.

Facebook Messenger

Same idea: Connect opens the bridge bot in this box. Sign-in / QR happens here — no Facebook password stored in Ultimate Chat.

Realistic next add-on via a Matrix Telegram bridge (phone login / QR). Not enabled on this server yet.

Signal does not offer a supported self-host bridge path for family apps. Keep Signal in its own app.

Email

Separate app

Use Tuta (or your mail client) for email. Ultimate Chat keeps messaging + SMS + optional social bridges here.

Unfiled chats

None

Unknown SMS and other chats not tied to a contact also appear under the Inbox filter in Contacts. Only link chats that show a phone number (e.g. SMS +1…) — never link bridge bot / setup rooms. If a contact’s SMS chat got overwritten, use Repair.

Bridge bots

Hidden

SMSGate / WhatsApp / Messenger bot consoles (setup / chatbot intro) stay out of Contacts. They belong here in Settings — not in your people list. Leave them on the server only if you want them gone from sync too.

Shared with Ultimate Chat contacts — photo appears next to your name in their list.

Quick start

One person can have UC and SMS. On their page, pick the channel you want. Call/Video need their SimpleX link.

Import contacts

From your phone: export a contact or your address book as .vcf (iPhone: share contact → Save to Files; Android: Contacts → Export), then choose that file here. On Android Chrome you can also use From phone in the toolbar.

Also supports CSV and Ultimate Chat JSON exports.
